League

St. James is proud to participate in the North Atlanta Church Basketball League.  The purpose of our league is to unite our churches to help players grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ and one another as they develop and demonstrate their athletic skills.  We accomplish these goals by promoting good sportsmanship and Christian fellowship while teaching the values of teamwork and dedication.

Coaching

Each team will need two coaches.  Responsibilities include running practices, coaching games, ensuring player attendance for games/practices, communicating with Director and leading player devotions.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Do I have to have high school/college/pro experience to coach?  No previous experience is required— just a willing, patient, persistent spirit.  We will equip you to lead your team!
  • Do I need to have a child who plays for St. James?  Nope!  You don’t need to have a child at all – just be willing to work with kids, which is simultaneously challenging and rewarding.
  • How much time will this require?  Practices are one hour per week M-F from November through February.  Games are one hour on Saturdays in January and February.  Most coaches take an additional hour a week (at most) to prep practice plans and communicate with parents.
  • Will I be on my own out there?  Absolutely not.  You have the full support of our Activities Director, another coach (we try to have two per team) and the parents who volunteer to be Team Coordinators.  Plus you can always seek assistance from the other coaches in our program!  Again, if you ask for help, you will get it.
  • How much “God Stuff” will I have to do?  Well, this is a Church league.  Coaches should pray before games and before or after practice.  It’s perfectly OK to ask players and parents to do this, too!
  • What if my team doesn’t win?  That’s OK.  We are a skill building, developmental league.  Our primary objectives are to learn some fundamentals, practice sportsmanship and strive for team work.  Our motto is Work Hard * Have Fun * Praise God!
  • Is it worth it?  Yes.  Yup.  Absolutely.  Totally.  Completely.  Without a doubt.  For sure.
