Come Worship With Us.

We are a warm, welcoming congregation who not only serves our own church family but also those beyond our doors, offering more than 120 activities, ministries and fellowship opportunities.

We are a neighborhood church with a traditional worship style.  The worship experience is enhanced by music and the beauty of the sanctuary.  In the summer months our worship style is a bit more casual.  We may slip in a few more contemporary songs, you’ll catch us more casually dressed, and we’ll even serve you lemonade after the service.

Communion is offered the first Sunday of each month.  All those present are welcomed to partake if they wish.  Gluten-free crackers are provided for those with food allergies.

Of course, visitors are welcome at all times, at any service, any dinner, any class.  If you wish to join our family, please call the front office.

(If you need a special hearing device or any assistance, please alert one of the ushers.)

Special Services

St. James will often invite special speakers to lead worship.  Twice a year we encourage our children and youth to conduct our worship, in all areas from ushering to preaching.  Our choir will periodically offer a special service, filled with beautiful music.  We also have a Sunday dedicated to our laity when appointed members lead us in worship.  Please know you are welcome at any and all of our services.

Special services are held throughout the year especially during Lent/Easter and Advent/Christmas. Please check the website or call the front office during those holidays for updated worship schedules.

For Children

Children are always welcome to worship with us, no matter how wiggly they can be! But if you prefer, a nursery and several children’s activities are available.

For babies up to age 3: Age-appropriate nurseries are provided for our babies at all worship services (as well as for all Bible classes).  The Childcare team is paid and trained in infant childcare.

For older children (ages 3 through kindergarten):  We love for the children to stay at least through Children’s Moments – that special time we all enjoy – when they run down the aisle and sit at the altar and listen to a short children’s version of the sermon.  Volunteer parents then lead them to Extended Session where they can enjoy a light snack and play time.

First and Second Graders are encouraged to attend Worship Readiness Class, which explains what the worship service is all about.  They learn about Communion, about the parts of the sanctuary, why certain songs are chosen...even when to stand and when to sit!  These sessions are held for eight Sundays (during 10:55 service) - five sessions in the fall and another three sessions in the winter.

Another gem we have for our children is Bible Challenge.  One Sunday per month our children are led out of worship, after Children’s Moments, and taken into their own classrooms to learn — and memorize — special Biblical passages, the Lord’s Prayer, Apostles Creed, and the words to many of our popular hymns. We have found that if children know the words to the creeds, the prayers and the songs, they feel much more comfortable in worship.  We also have found that they rarely forget these very special passages as they grow older.
